1. James Milner
The player born in 1986 is one of the key contributors to Liverpool’s recent successes. He is a versatile player and always shows enthusiasm when given the opportunity to play.
However, Milner’s performance since the start of the season so far has been unimpressive. He doesn’t get to start often. Author Gautham Unni commented that the English player was not as good defensively as Fabinho and also did not pass the ball as well as Jordan Henderson. Perhaps age is causing the former Manchester City star to lose his form.
2. Joel Matip
The Cameroonian midfielder is one of the reliable steel shields in the Liverpool defense. During the 2020/21 season, he showed his worth when Virgil Van Dijk was absent due to injury. But in the 2021/22 season, Matip had a somewhat tired start, he no longer showed his inherent speed. Gautham Unni judged him to be just a shadow of himself.
3. Jordan Henderson
The Liverpool captain is still an important pillar in the midfield of The Kop. He manages the midfield well, creating a balance between attack and defense. Since the beginning of the season, the former Sunderland star has scored 3 goals, 4 assists after 29 appearances in all competitions.
But in some respects, the number 14 of the Red Brigade has not kept up in good form in the 2021/22 season. Gautham Unni thinks he is indecisive in important situations.
4. Sadio Mane
The Senegalese winger has long been a powerful attack for Liverpool. He possesses the speed and ability to create mutations in the left wing corridor. Since the beginning of the season, Mane has scored 10 goals in 26 matches.
However, it is still undeniable that the former Southampton star had a difficult time for a while when he was stuck in finishing. And according to Gautham Unni, Mane has not maintained his consistency compared to previous seasons.
5. Takumi Minamino
One of the disappointing names in the Liverpool composition up to the present time is Minamino. After the positive signals when he was loaned to Southampton last season, the Japanese striker has not made much of a mark.
He often sat on the bench and did not take advantage of the opportunity to play when the duo Sadio Mane – Mohamed Salah was absent because he was busy attending the Africa Cup of Nations. In the English Premier League, he has only scored 2 goals and has never been ranked as a starter.
