Real Madrid accept to lose an important service when preparing to enter El Clasico.

Video Benzema becomes the 3rd best striker in Real’s history

Victory over Mallorca cost Real Madrid dearly because of Karim Benzema’s injury. After the match, the French star’s test results were not too serious, but negative information began to appear regarding the former Lyon star on the eve of El Clasico.

Benzema has not been ruled out of Sunday’s Clasico against Barcelona but  Real now believe their striker has a 40% chance of attending the game at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Carlo Ancelotti will not risk Benzema as Real Madrid’s priority is to ensure that the Frenchman is fully fit for the Champions League quarter-final against Chelsea .

There are not many opportunities for Benzema to play against Barca.

Marca explained El Clasico is the key for Los Blancos to hope to win La Liga when they are 10 points ahead of Sevilla and 15 points ahead of Barca. However, Real would rather let Benzema miss the match against Barcelona than watch him sit out against Chelsea, a difficult opponent to play in the important Champions League arena. In addition to Benzema, Ferland Mendy is another name absent from El Clasico.

According to media reports, Ancelotti is testing Mariano Diaz in attack in the recent training sessions. So there is a reason to believe that Diaz, not Luka Jovic, became the name of choice to kick ahead of Barca.
