Carneiro Wins Gold, Dragons Finish Day Two in Fourth Place

FAIRFAX, Va, – The Drexel men’s swimming and diving team completed day two of the Patriot Invitational on Friday on the campus of George Mason. The Dragons moved up the in rankings by winning several medals, including a gold medal by Xabier Carneiro.

The Dragons started their night with a gold medal in the 200 medley relay. The team of Nikita TimoshenkoKacper KarnikParis Raptis and John Scully touched the wall first with a time of 1:28.33. Carneiro competed and won gold in the 400 IM by posting a time of 3:56.78. The medal was Carneiro’s first of the Invitational.

Raptis took silver in the 100 fly with a time of 47.44. He finished less than a second behind first place. Kevin Spear saw action in the A final of the 200 free after posting a time of 1:42.74 in the preliminaries.

Drexel competed in the 100 breast and won two medals. Karnik took silver and Raptis won bronze after posting times of 54.25 and 55.26, respectively. Alessio Gianni followed it up with a bronze in the 100 back by posting a time of 49.37.

Drexel returns to George Mason on Saturday to wrap up the 2021 Patriot Invitational. The team will compete in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 1650 free. The preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. and finals will begin at 6 p.m.
