Arteta speaks after the win over Leicester
At the present time, it can be said that Alexandre Lacazette is playing a particularly important role in Arsenal’s squad. However, it is highly likely that the French striker will say goodbye to the Gunners at the end of the season, when the two sides still cannot find a common voice on the contract extension.
In the opinion of Garth Crooks, Brentford star Ivan Toney will be a perfect replacement for Lacazette. Talking to BBC Sport, the Arsenal legend shared:
“My two colleagues, Dion Dublin and Jason Mohammed, raised their eyebrows when I suggested that Ivan Toney would be a perfect fit for Arsenal next season.”
“I think they were a bit surprised because they thought, I might know about something inside, but my comments are purely speculative.”
“After all, Ollie Watkins, the former Brentford striker, has had a transformation at Aston Villa. And Toney would be the ideal replacement should Alexandre Lacazette leave the Gunners in the summer.”
“Unlike Watkins when he moved to Villa, Toney has been scoring a lot of goals in the Premier League – he hasn’t had a move to make.”
“As for Brentford, if Arsenal approach, the west London team may have no choice but to receive the money. Brentford has a habit of selling when the player is still hot.”
