Gianni Wins Gold, Scully with Two Bronzes at Patriots Invitational Day One

FAIRFAX, Va.- The Drexel men’s swimming and diving team completed day one of the three-day Patriot Invitational on Thursday night. The Dragons finished with a total of four medal finishes on the first day.

Alessio Gianni won gold in the 500 free with a time of 4:25.41 after swimming a 4:30.93 preliminary time that seeded him in third. Kacper Karnik took silver in the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.57, topping his preliminary time of 1:50.42. Gianni and Paris Raptis were both featured in the A final of the 200 IM as well. Raptis finished just shy of third place by a second after finishing in 1:50.89 while Gianni finished with a time of 1:57.22.

John Scully touched the wall with a time of 20.75, topping his preliminary time of 20.81, to earn a bronze in the 50 free. Scully also anchored the 400 medley relay team that won bronze with a time of 3:17.62. Joining Scully on the team was Carson Huff, Karnik and Raptis.

The 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back will be featured in day two of the Patriot Invitational on Friday morning. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. from Fairfax, Va.
