The Elland Road team has absolutely no intention of selling their mainstay midfielder in the near future.

Rangnick speaks after losing to Atletico Madrid

As is known, Manchester United has long wanted to bring in Old Trafford a quality defensive midfielder to replace Nemanja Matic long-term. Their top target is still Declan Rice, but in the context of West Ham United always demanding a fee of around £100 million, the Red Devils also have other backup options available.

One of them is Kalvin Phillips, a star on the payroll of Leeds United. This season, despite the fact that Leeds has declined miserably along with lingering injuries, Phillips is still considered the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League. So, not only Man Utd, but he is also targeted by many other teams, most notably in the case of Liverpool.

Will Phillips leave or stay with Leeds?

Currently, the contract between Phillips and Leeds is only valid until the summer of 2024, so of course they can sell this midfielder as soon as next summer to collect the most possible transfer value. But no, as revealed by The Times (sourced by ESPN), Leeds has absolutely no intention of parting with Phillips and they will soon hold talks to extend the contract with the British ‘scanner’.

Obviously, it is not excluded that Phillips will be determined to leave, when he is facing the opportunity to play for big clubs.
