Losing to Middlesbrough, Rangnick still finds a bright spot in the squad

Man Utd’s defeat against Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the FA Cup on the penalty spot made it difficult for Red Devils fans to swallow.

After being eliminated from the League Cup in the third round and 19 points behind the Premier League leaders, Man City, the FA Cup is the best opportunity for Ralf Rangnick’s teachers and students to win the championship title this season. Man Utd  still has the Champions League arena to conquer, but with what they show, it’s too difficult for the Red Devils to step up to the top. The recent defeat means that the title thirst of the Old Trafford team is likely to last up to 5 years.

Dalot played well in the loss to Middlesbrough.

Honestly, Rangnick’s players did not play badly against Middlesbrough . In it, the performance of Diogo Dalot is commendable. Although Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has missed the last three Premier League games due to illness, is back, Dalot is still to be believed.

Since the German strategist was appointed as Man Utd’s interim coach in November, the Portuguese international has started 8 of 11 matches. Meanwhile, Wan-Bissaka has only started 3 matches, including the Champions League loss to Young Boys.

After training in warm weather in Dubai, Dalot ‘s energy levels were full during the 120 minutes of competition. He calmly took his penalty and his importance to the team grew. It is too difficult to see Wan-Bissaka occupy the official position of the 22-year-old player from now on.

Dalot is comprehensive in both defense and attack.

Against Middlesbrough, the former Porto man once again put in an all-round performance, displaying both superb offensive and defensive qualities. Dalot’s natural instinct is to attack – something Rangnick wants from his full-backs – but he has also improved defensively. The player who was on loan at AC Milan last season is becoming a modern full- back who is comfortable in 1vs1 situations and knows how to overlap with his winger.

Against Chris Wilder’s side, only Luke Shaw (154) touched the ball more than Dalot (151), and neither player made more decisive passes than the Reds right-back (5) , according to WhoScored. No Man Utd player has made more tackles (3) or cleared the ball than the Portuguese. Dalot also completed 83% of his passes and won 7 duels.

Rangnick may have a lot of trouble for next Tuesday’s game against Burnley, but Dalot, with his freshness and impressive form, can fully secure the starting position.
